CHICAGO — Leaders from the Southwest Side gathered today in Gage Park to announce an immediate response plan for residents affected by severe flooding and to demand long-term investments in infrastructure to protect vulnerable neighborhoods.

Hosted by Ald. Jeylú Gutiérrez, the press conference brought together a united coalition of elected officials: Rep. Aaron Ortiz, Rep. Edgar Gonzalez Jr., Sen. Javier Cervantes, Cook County Commissioner Alma Anaya, and U.S. Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García.

CHICAGO — Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) led the Democratic Members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, and ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons. The letter affirms support for local laws that govern how police interact with immigrant communities in Illinois, Cook County, and Chicago, and urges the Trump administration to stop its unlawful attacks on these policies.

CHICAGO, IL — Severe storms on Friday and Monday caused flash floods that devastated thousands of residents across Southwest Chicago and the suburbs. More than 2,000 flooded basement reports have already been filed—and that’s just part of the damage. Streets, vehicles, entire homes, commercial and industrial properties, and even a local library were hit hard, especially in working-class communities where recovery will be the toughest.
