INTERNSHIPS

Congressman Jesús “Chuy'' García offers in-person internships in his Washington D.C., Chicago, and Melrose Park offices. Internship programs run throughout the Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions and interns are compensated at a rate of $15/hour, unless substantially sponsored by an external organization.

Please note that our D.C. and District offices have different application deadlines.

The summer internship cycle lasts approximately 12 weeks (unless otherwise noted), and interns are expected to work 30 hours per week, including some weekends and evening hours.

D.C Internship Application Deadline: March 31st, 2024 at 11:59 PM (CT)

District Offices Internship Application Deadline: May 5th, 2024 at 11:59 PM (CT)

 

Washington, D.C. Office

Internship Start Date: Monday, May 27th, 2024

Internship End Date: Friday, August 9th, 2024

Congressional interns will have the opportunity to serve in a wide range of capacities including but not limited to:

  • Managing phone calls
  • Data entry
  • Responding to constituent requests
  • Sorting mail and correspondence writing
  • Researching legislation
  • Attending briefings and hearings
  • Assisting and planning events
  • Supporting community outreach efforts

Our internship program is designed to be a learning experience in which you are exposed to a variety of areas including constituent services, scheduling, office administration, press and communications, and legislative policy. 

Our office is committed to building a team with diverse lived and professional experience that equips us to serve Illinois’ 4th District. Candidates are encouraged to apply and describe in their cover letter how their experience translates to the needs of the office and the role. Ties to IL-04 are considered but not required. While we are happy to sponsor course credit when available, enrollment in a higher education institution is not required.

Our office is committed to building a team with diverse lived and professional experience that well equips our team to serve the Illinois 4th District.
