Help Name the Pilsen Post Office

A classroom-based initiative led by Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García

Students across Pilsen are invited to research and nominate a person whose work has made a meaningful impact on the community. This project connects classroom learning with real-world civic participation—and helps shape a lasting community recognition.

Who Can Participate

  • High Schools in the Pilsen Area
  • History, Civics, Government & Social Studies classes

How It Works

  • Teachers lead a short in-class activity (2–4 periods)
  • Each class submits one nominee
  • Students research and make the case

Eligibility

Nominees must:

  • Be deceased
  • Have a clear connection to Pilsen or the 4th District
  • Demonstrate impact in public service, education, labor, civil rights, or military service

Timeline

  • Launch: April 8, 2026
  • Deadline: May 15, 2026
  • Selection: Late May
  • Announcement: June

This initiative centers student voice, highlights community history, and ensures the final decision reflects meaningful, local input.
