WASHINGTON, DC.-- Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) voted today in support of H.R. 7, the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation that seeks to address gender wage discrimination. Congressman García issued the following statement:
"Equal pay for equal work is a basic principle for any fair society, but our country has never lived up to it. Today I voted for the Paycheck Fairness Act to change that and ensure pay equity for women in the workforce.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week commemorates the 5-year anniversary of the assassination of Honduran environmental and indigenous rights leader, Berta Cáceres. Five years later, the fight for human rights in Honduras wages on, and the United States must drastically change its role in that fight.

Washington, DC— Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives this morning in support of H.Res. 1153, a congressional resolution condemning unwanted, unnecessary medical procedures on individuals without their full informed consent. This resolution addresses whistleblower allegations of mass hysterectomies being performed on women detained at the privately-run Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Ga.

"This verdict does not serve justice to Breonna Taylor, her family, or our community. It's a slap on the wrist for one police officer—and a slap in the face for Black and Brown communities across the country.
