In 2019, U.S. Representative Jesús G. “Chuy” García became the first Mexican American from the Midwest to serve in Congress. Washington, DC- Yesterday, the Committee on Financial Services convened the hearing entitled, "Homelessness in America: Examining the Crisis and Solutions to End Homelessness."
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Annual Homeless Assessment Report, there were 552,830 people experiencing homelessness in the United States on a single night in 2018. Racial minorities are disproportionately represented among people experiencing homelessness in 2018.
Washington, DC- Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García issued the following statement on the passing of Pastor Victor H. Rodriguez:
"I was saddened to learn the tragic news of the passing of Pastor Vic, as we all called him. This is a huge loss for my district and for Chicago. Years ago, he was able to purchase an abandoned church and transform it into one of the most important community centers in Little Village, with a bilingual, multi-cultural congregation that attracted young people from across the city.
