Washington, DC – Today, Reps. Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) and Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) led more than 60 of their colleagues in an effort to prevent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) from closing its international field offices. Last month, the agency announced it would close nearly two-dozen offices in 21 countries around the globe that assist with refugee and asylum cases, help Americans who are adopting children from abroad, and process applications to reunite families. The offices also work to combat immigration fraud.

Chicago, IL—Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García issued the following statement in response to President Trump's decision to cut assistance to the Central American countries in the Northern Triangle and his threats to close the border with Mexico.

"President Trump's decision to cut direct assistance to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador and his threats to close the border with Mexico demonstrate his disregard for our neighbors in the region, and his ignorance about the domestic impacts that our foreign policy decisions have.

Chicago, IL- Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García issued this statement in response to President Trump's veto of H.J.Res. 46, the resolution terminating his unlawful emergency declaration:

"The President's veto of the resolution terminating his Emergency Declaration is another act of defiance against the Constitution of the United States of America. Our country does not need an ineffective and wasteful wall. What we need is to fix our broken immigration system. I will vote to override this veto."

Washington, DC– U.S. Representative Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04), a member of the House Financial Services Committee which has jurisdiction of federal housing, and Representative Joe Cunningham (SC-01) on Tuesday introduced the Safe Housing for Families Act to provide carbon monoxide detectors in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing units.
