Washington, D.C. - Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) issued the following statement today about the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) strike:

"Decades ago I was a proud union member in my first jobs. I have a long-standing tradition of support for working men and women and the importance of collective bargaining. The teachers and staff who work in our schools do important and challenging work—educating our children. I stand with the members of the CTU and SEIU as I have always advocated for workers to organize for better wages and working conditions.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04), Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), and Congressman Mark Takano (CA-41) launched the Future of Transportation Caucus, which will be dedicated to creating a vision for the future of our transportation system that emphasizes equity, access, and sustainability. The caucus formally launched this morning and will feature a standing series of briefings and forums to generate awareness and policy discussions including sustainability, safety, and improved connectivity for all communities.

Washington, D.C. - Congressmen Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04), Danny K. Davis (IL-07), Ruben Gallego (AZ-07) and Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03) are leading a letter to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Matthew Albence raising their deep concerns about reports that the agency is building an "urban warfare" training facility in Fort Benning, modeled after neighborhoods in Chicago and Arizona.

Washington, D.C. – Representatives Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04), Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), along with eight members of the Illinois delegation, sent a letter to American Airlines voicing their concerns over its plan to outsource 5,000 jobs overseas to foreign aircraft maintenance and repair stations. The Members, who represent communities served by two major Chicago airports, are troubled by the negative effects this decision may have on the safety of the national airspace as well as on the employees who may be displaced.

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García issued the following statement addressing reports that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency is building an "urban warfare" training facility for its agents at Fort Benning, a U.S. Army post that prepares soldiers for combat. The agency has awarded a contract worth almost $1 million to the company Strategic Operations to build "hyper-realistic" replicas of neighborhoods in Chicago and Arizona.
