Chicago, IL - In response to the murder of George Floyd and systemic police brutality against Black and Latino communities, Representative Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) joined Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), Ilhan Omar (MN-05), Karen Bass (CA-37), Barbara Lee (CA-13), and 45 Members of Congress to introduce a resolution calling on Congress to condemn the criminalization of marginalized communities. Congressman García also supports transformative legislation to end police brutality, immunity, and corruption. His statement is below:
Chicago, IL - Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García released the following statement to protest the brutal murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer:
"Last week, amidst an unprecedented economic crisis and a virus ravaging black and brown communities, George Floyd was murdered in broad daylight by police in Minneapolis. The video and images of his death horrified people across America, who then took to the streets to demand an end to racist policing."
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04), Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), and Congresswoman Katie Porter (CA-45) sent a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin asking him to clarify the guidance given to airlines receiving support as provided by Subtitle B of Title IV of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Chicago, IL - As COVID-19 brings financial devastation to our communities, Reps. Jesús "Chuy" García and Glenn Grothman urge Congress to pass their Veterans and Consumers Fair Credit Act (H.R. 5050), a bill to protect families recovering from the pandemic by extending the protections of the Military Lending Act to all consumers. These protections include a 36% interest rate cap for payday and car-title loans.
Chicago, IL - Representatives Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) and Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) sent a letter to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today with Members of the Illinois Congressional delegation calling on the agency to fulfill its mission and mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in meatpacking plants. In light of President Trump's executive order to reopen meat and poultry processing plants in the midst of the global pandemic, the letter calls on the agency to enforce stronger protections for workers.
Chicago, IL - The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have released results from their two respective investigations, in addition to a third independent study, to determine how the demolition of the Crawford Coal Plant smokestack impacted Little Village and the surrounding neighborhoods. These initial results indicate that there are no pollution levels linked to the demolition that could be considered unsafe for human health, according to the current standards set by the EPA.
