The administration previously announced it would stop funding coronavirus testing sites in five states including Illinois.

Washington, D.C. - Today Congressman Jesus "Chuy" Garcia voted to advance H.R. 6800, the HEROES Act, which passed the House of Representatives 208-199. The legislation would provide more than $3 trillion dollars in comprehensive relief to families, small businesses, and state and local governments.

Chicago, IL - Representatives Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) and Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) sent a letter to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today with Members of the Illinois Congressional delegation calling on the agency to fulfill its mission and mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in meatpacking plants. In light of President Trump's executive order to reopen meat and poultry processing plants in the midst of the global pandemic, the letter calls on the agency to enforce stronger protections for workers.

"I voted, with great hesitation, to support this package that will provide funding for hospitals, increased virus testing, and support for small businesses throughout the country. I also support the provision to report COVID-19 demographic data by race, sex, ethnicity, gender and geography.

The bill directs United States representatives to multilateral development banks like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help developing countries as they fight COVID-19.
