Statement from Congressman García Regarding the Closing of Westlake Hospital

Washington, DC- Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García issued the following statement regarding the closing of Westlake Hospital:

"I am very concerned about reports that Westlake Hospital may be closing as soon as tomorrow. The closure of the hospital would harm people in my community who are currently being treated by doctors in that facility and who don't have other options for their health care.

"Westlake Hospital is a critical asset for Melrose Park and the surrounding communities in Chicago. A couple of weeks ago, I visited the facility and talked to physicians, patients and other stakeholders. After our meeting, I sent the attached letter to Dr. Terry Mason, Chief Operating Officer of Cook County Department of Public Health, expressing my concerns.

"Pipeline Health, the new owner, must follow the rules and regulations that govern hospital closures. I will continue to work to find ways to mitigate the impact this closing will have on my constituents."
