Reproductive Rights Advocate Abby Favro to Join Congressman García for State of the Union Address in Washington

March 4, 2024

CHICAGO— Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) announced that Abby Favro, a constituent from Elmhurst, will be his guest at President Biden’s State of the Union on Thursday, March 7, 2024 in Washington, DC. Favro is the Chief Development Officer for Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL). In that role she oversees development efforts and activities, including the RESOLVE Campaign, which aims to protect and broaden access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care. Through this campaign, PPIL provides non-judgmental health care and information to all who seek it whether they are Illinois residents or one of the thousands of people who have to travel to our state to receive the care they need.

“Since Roe was overturned, Republicans in Congress and in state legislatures across the country have intensified their efforts to ban abortion, ban reproductive care, ban contraception, and now ban IVF. I represent a district with a large Latina and immigrant population, communities that already face greater barriers to care. In this post-Roe world, these communities are being targeted with misinformation saying that seeking care could lead to criminal charges or even deportation. I also represent a state that has become a Midwestern safe haven for people seeking care, in no small part due to the work of people like Abby Favro,” said Congressman García. “Abby does crucial work to ensure that health organizations have the resources they need to provide reproductive care and fight back against those seeking to restrict access to it. Partners like Abby and Planned Parenthood are indispensable in the fight to ensure reproductive freedom for all.”

“I feel fortunate to live in Illinois, where we have pro-choice champions like my Representative, Chuy Garcia. Through my work with Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL), I have seen first-hand the devastating impact when states lose access to abortion and gender-affirming care and patients are forced to travel for these services,” said Abby Favro. “The number of patients needing financial assistance or travel support to get care at PPIL has more than doubled since Roe was overturned. I am deeply proud of the work PPIL does to ensure that all people, regardless of zip code, have access to affordable, non-judgmental, sexual and reproductive health care.”
