Rep. García Opposes Republican Funding Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) issued the following statement after voting against the Republican funding bill:
A video clip of this statement can be found here.
“I’ve been opposing a lot of terrible Republican bills lately, and today, I voted no on a particularly evil proposal.
“The funding bill that Republicans are pushing gives a green light to all the messed-up things they’ve been doing - like firing over 100,000 federal employees, closing Social Security Offices, and dismantling health care and rental assistance programs.
“Until now, many parts of Trump and Elon Musk’s destructive agenda have been illegal, and because of that their actions keep getting struck down in court. This bill is the rubber stamp they need to say, ‘it’s legal, Congress allowed it.’ And that’s why I’m a HELL NO on this legislation
“It gets worse. Seniors will lose food assistance, veterans will lose nearly $23 billion in health care, and Social Security offices will shut down, forcing longer wait times and backlogs for benefits people already earned.
“Instead of lowering the cost of living, Republicans are betraying veterans, seniors and families, and handing Musk a blank check to cut social security.”
“That’s why I voted NO! --and I’ll keep fighting for working people.”
