Rep. García Applauds Passage of Inflation Reduction Act
WASHINGTON, DC — Representative Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) issued the following statement after voting for the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5376, the final version of the Inflation Reduction Act:
“I voted for the Inflation Reduction Act because investments to lower prescription drug and energy costs, extend health care for millions, and combat climate change cannot wait. After months advocating for a progressive reconciliation bill, we are delivering a package of common sense policies to help families in my district and across the country.
“This package does the most we’ve ever done to create green jobs and make green energy affordable. It also lowers prescription drug prices, caps the price of insulin for Medicare recipients, and more than pays for itself by making billionaires pay their fair share of taxes.
“To be clear, this bill does not do enough, alone, to address the climate crisis. Nor does it tackle many of the other key issues I have pushed for in previous reconciliation packages, like immigration reform, affordable housing, and universal childcare. However, the Inflation Reduction Act represents a historic investment in health and climate priorities that will benefit working class families like the ones I represent. I applaud the bill’s passage and look forward to President Biden signing it into law.”
