President Trump: Hate Does Not Make America Great

June 18, 2019

Washington, DC- Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) issued the following statement on the President's latest threat to deport millions of immigrants and target families:

"It is no coincidence that President Trump is fanning the flames of hate and threatening immigrant families with deportation on the same day he is kicking off his presidential campaign. This is the same strategy of dividing Americans he has used since he first ran for president.

"The cruel anti-immigrant policies his Administration implements every day are leaving a trail of heartbreak and trauma for the children and parents affected by family separation and deportation. These actions are not happening just at the border, but across the nation, where workplace raids have taken place. Trump is ignoring existing laws regarding the treatment of children, due process for people seeking asylum, and women fleeing domestic violence.

"Instead of terrorizing people who have helped build our country, start businesses, pay taxes and contribute to the best of our country, the President and Republicans in Congress should embrace new Americans. Trump should work with Democrats on real solutions to fix our broken immigration system. Hate does not make America Great. Real solutions do."
