Declaración del Congresista García Sobre Un Día Sin Inmigrantes
CHICAGO, IL – El Congresista Jesús "Chuy" (IL-04) emitió la siguiente declaración en video en apoyo a "Un Día Sin Inmigrantes", un movimiento en el que migrantes de todo el país, llevan a cabo protestas, no asistiendo al trabajo ni a la escuela, y evitando hacer compras para demostrar su papel esencial en los Estados Unidos y exigir una reforma migratoria.

"Soy el congresista Chuy García, soy un inmigrante de México, y represento al 4º distrito del Congreso de Illinois, una comunidad donde al menos una tercera parte de nuestros vecinos son nacidos en el extranjero.
"Los inmigrantes son el tejido que forma a nuestro país. Somos latinos, caribeños, africanos, europeos y asiáticos, y es nuestra diversidad lo que ha impulsado, y siempre impulsará a Estados Unidos hacia adelante. Los inmigrantes son nuestros maestros, enfermeras y trabajadores agrícolas. Abastecen nuestros supermercados, curan a nuestros enfermos y cuidan a nuestros niños.
"Un día sin inmigrantes" es un esfuerzo de base a nivel nacional que destaca la frustración que sienten muchos en la comunidad inmigrante. A pesar de mantener a nuestro país en marcha antes, durante y ciertamente después de la pandemia, los políticos continúan ignorándolos.
"Tenemos que seguir luchando por nuestras familias, amigos y vecinos, hasta que podamos hacer algo por los inmigrantes este año.

"Pensemos en los inmigrantes que mantienen en funcionamiento nuestras escuelas y hospitales.
"Pensemos en quienes cuidan a nuestros seres queridos.
"Pensemos en el padre que se despierta al amanecer para trabajar en los campos de cultivo solo para poner comida en nuestras mesas.
"Estados Unidos no es nada sin inmigrantes. Así de simple. Somos los que hemos formado esta nación, y ya es hora de que vivamos de acuerdo con nuestros valores y les demos a los inmigrantes el respeto y la dignidad que merecen."

CHICAGO, IL – Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) issued the following video statement in support of "A Day Without Immigrants," as thousands of migrants join protests throughout the country, stay out of work, and school, and skip consumer purchases to demonstrate their essential role in the United States and to demand immigration reform.

"I'm Congressman Chuy García, I'm an immigrant from Mexico, and I represent the 4th Congressional District of Illinois – a community where at least one third of our neighbors are foreign-born.
"Immigrants are the fabric of our country. We are Latino, Caribbean, Black, European, and Asian – and it is our diversity that has and always will drive America forward. Immigrants are our teachers, nurses, and farmworkers. They stock our grocery stores, heal our sick, and care for our children.
"A Day Without Immigrants" is a nation-wide grassroots effort that highlights the frustration that so many in the immigrant community feel. Despite keeping this country going before, during, and certainly after the pandemic – politicians continue to pay them lip service.
"We've got to fight real hard for our families, friends, and neighbors – and we won't stop until we can get something done for immigrants this year.
"On this Day Without Immigrants:
"Think about the immigrants that keep our schools and hospitals running.
"Think about the caretakers whom we entrust with our loved ones.
"Think about the father who wakes up at the crack of dawn to toil in the farm fields just to put food on our tables.
"America is nothing without immigrants. Plain and simple. It is who we are as a nation, and it's about damn time we live up to our values and give immigrants the respect and dignity they deserve."
