Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García Votes to Advance Impeachment Inquiry
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) issued the following statement after voting to pass H. Res 660, a resolution formally establishing the scope and parameters for the impeachment of Donald J. Trump, and making transparent to the American public how the impeachment process will be conducted:
"Thanks to several courageous men and women serving in our government, we have learned the facts about President Trump's request for political favors from Ukraine in order to benefit his own re-election. Seeking help from a foreign government in an American election violates the Constitution of the United States. When elected I promised to serve my community and uphold the law. Today we voted for a resolution that lays out the next steps of the impeachment process. The President has abused his power, obstructed justice and repeatedly tried to hide the truth, in doing so he has jeopardized our national security. We must uphold our promise to the American people and hold the President accountable. No one is above the law; not even the President."
