Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García’ Statement on House Resolution 798

WASHINGTON, DC– Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) issued the following statement on his vote on H.Res. 798: 

“If House Resolution 798 meaningfully engaged with the real and rising danger of antisemitism, I would have voted for it. Instead, it mischaracterizes incidents of campus antisemitism as going unaddressed, and attacks students for procedural decisions about their condemnation of Hamas.

“When facts are ignored to make a political point, it weakens our grasp on the truth—which makes it more difficult to actually address the increase in antisemitic incidents in the United States.”
