CHICAGO — Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) issued the following statement on the unjustified firing of Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden:

“Donald Trump’s decision to fire the Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden, one year before her term was set to expire, is unjustified. This is another example of the Trump administration’s pattern of firing leaders who are trying to ensure all aspects of the American experience are visible through the work of our cultural institutions.

“Dr. Carla Hayden led the Library of Congress with distinction and honor, spearheading efforts to ensure America’s Library was accessible to all Americans. From her early work as Chicago’s chief librarian to her time as the Nation’s top librarian, Dr. Hayden dedicated her career to ensuring libraries serve their communities. The next Librarian of Congress must continue to build upon Dr. Hayden’s legacy of inclusivity and expansion, ensuring that the Library serves all Americans, and not a regime’s ideology.”
