Congressman García’s Statement on the Shooting of Sonya Massey

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) issued the following statement following the release of body-worn camera footage of the police killing of Sonya Massey:

“Sonya Massey was a daughter, mother, sister, and she should still be alive today. Like many community members I represent, she called the police to seek protection. Instead, the body-worn camera footage released last night shows an unarmed Black woman being shot at point-blank range by an officer of the law in her own house.

“My prayers are with Sonya’s family, friends, and community as they seek accountability.”
