CHICAGO, IL – Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García issued the following statement on today’s Supreme Court Ruling on Biden v. Texas, allowing the president to end the “Remain in Mexico” policy:

“The Supreme Court confirmed today that the cruel ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy of the Trump era can finally end. This is an important decision that underscores the authority of President Biden and his administration to take executive action on issues related to immigration and asylum.  

“Seeking asylum is a human right. In the past week alone, we saw an unspeakable tragedy in San Antonio underscoring that further steps need to be taken to end Title 42 and other cruel policies of the previous administration that limit the legal right to seek asylum.

“There is still much work to be done to fix our broken immigration system, but this is an important step in the right direction.”
