Congressman García Reappointed to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure for the 118th Congress
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04), co-founder of the Future of Transportation Caucus, was reappointed to serve on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Congressman García issued the following statement:
“I am proud to rejoin the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure to continue advancing policies focused on equity and rooted in the needs of working class people. With my subcommittee assignments on Aviation; Highways and Transit; and Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, I will continue to prioritize increasing access to public transit, protecting the rights of transit workers, challenging corporate greed in the transportation industry, and promoting safety and sustainability.
“Last Congress, my colleagues and I passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA), a historical investment to restore our national infrastructure and expand workforce opportunities. With my reappointment to this Committee, we will continue to oversee its implementation and ensure that the funds equitably and strategically delivered across Chicago and Illinois.
“For the 118th Congress, I remain committed to achieving policies that increase access to transit for all commuters by working to modernize transportation and water infrastructure, and creating jobs that will strengthen our economy.
“Chicago is one of the nation’s most significant transportation hubs and the third largest metropolitan area. From modernizing Midway International Airport in my district, to rebuilding roads and bridges, and investing in public transit, I will continue to be a strong champion for progressive legislation for the Chicagoland region and surrounding counties.”
