Congressman García Pushes Department of State and USAID Officials for Answers during Western Hemisphere Hearing

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) participated in today's House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, "Overview of U.S. Priorities in the Western Hemisphere: Opportunities, Challenges & the Path Ahead". Witnesses included Assistant Secretaries of State of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols, Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Todd Robinson, and Assistant Administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development, Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean, Marcela Escobari.

Congressman García's questions focused on the humanitarian impacts of U.S. sanctions against Venezuela, the involvement of Colombian U.S.-trained mercenaries in international conflicts and assassination attempts, and the trial of Guapinol water defenders currently underway in Honduras.
