Congressman García Sworn into Office for the 119th Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. 一 Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García issued the following statement after being sworn in for his 4th term representing Illinois’ 4th District in the U.S. House of Representatives for the 119th Congress:

“I am grateful to my constituents for trusting me to represent them again in the House of Representatives. I return to Congress determined to continue fighting for their priorities and against extreme Republican policies.

“My first responsibility will always be to defend our communities and advance the policies that help make their lives better, like un-rigging the economy, making the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, addressing health care and housing affordability and stopping forever wars. And as an immigrant who represents a district where one-third of its residents are foreign born, I remain committed to fighting for meaningful immigration reform.

“I will seek to build coalitions with those colleagues who want to work together to find solutions to the problems our constituents face, but I will push back every step of the way against MAGA policies that target safety net programs and leave people behind.

“We have a mighty task ahead, and I look forward to getting started on the work we need to do.”
