Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García’s Statement on Today’s Passage of Legislation to Prevent Unauthorized War with Iran
Washington, D.C . - Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to block federal funding for war against Iran without Congressional approval and repeal the 2002 Iraq Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF):
“Today, the House voted to stop the President from starting another endless war. The amendments we passed restrict the Trump Administration, and any future president, from conducting unauthorized military action without Congressional approval.
“War should always be a last resort and never be used without permission from Congress. Our current relationship with Iran calls for diplomacy, not war. Today we make clear that the President has neither the federal funding nor the Congressional authorization to go to war with Iran.”
