Press Release

Washington, D.C.— Today Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) issued the following statement as original cosponsor of the Green New Deal Resolution that recognizes the federal government’s duty to pursue environmentally sustainable and socially equitable development in the 21st century:

“Climate change is one of the most consequential challenges we face as a country, global community and as a generation. It poses a great threat to our future, but also an immense opportunity to harness the great ingenuity of the American spirit.

"Yesterday, a group of mothers visited my district office to share stories about how climate change is impacting their daily lives. They are worried about how the drastic fluctuations in weather are affecting their children’s health, about the quality of the air they breath and the water they drink.

"I am committed to actively work to support policies that reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, shift our energy consumption to green and sustainable sources, and support infrastructure and urban planning reforms that are in line with the highest conservation and sustainability standards. It's time to take bold actions to begin addressing the matter.”
