Congressman García’s Statement on Kyle Rittenhouse’s Acquittal

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) issued the following statement after Kyle Rittenhouse, who fatally shot two men and wounded another amidst protests last summer, was acquitted on all counts:

“There is no justice in a system that acquits vigilante killers of their crimes. Kyle Rittenhouse created a dangerous situation, then used that dangerous situation as his defense. Today’s verdict means there will be no justice for families of the victims, and no accountability for a young man who killed two people on video.

“I am angry. I am indignant. And I am particularly frustrated that, once again, a right-wing vigilante got different, better treatment than young Latino and Black kids from places like the communities I represent. This verdict is a call to peaceful action, to speak out against institutional bias, and pursue justice and accountability for all."
