Chicago, IL- Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García issued this statement in response to President Trump’s veto of H.J.Res. 46, the resolution terminating his unlawful emergency declaration:

“The President’s veto of the resolution terminating his Emergency Declaration is another act of defiance against the Constitution of the United States of America. Our country does not need an ineffective and wasteful wall.  What we need is to fix our broken immigration system. I will vote to override this veto.”

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) released the following statement on President Trump and Republicans’ decision to temporarily reopen the federal government and end the Trump Shutdown:

“It has taken 35 days for President Trump and Senator McConnell to agree to reopen the government and pay federal employees. But the pocketbooks of 800,000 workers who lived in uncertainty for more than a month will not be able to recover immediately. Furthermore, any appropriations agreement needs to include backpay for contract workers.
